Really interesting government website from Human & Health Services [HHS] showing state hospital inpatient bed and ICU bed utilization numbers. Below is some of the data for California extracted from the attachments. The link for this website is in the first reply below.

One thing that should be pretty obvious is how few ICU beds the state of California has given this California’s population. In rural regions of the state, the situation is a lot worse. So it shouldn’t be a surprise when there aren’t many ICU beds available in rural areas of the state because not that many beds exist. Nine out of ten ICU beds are in urban areas. Fewer than 1% of ICU beds are in rural areas.

For all the sensational headlines in the LA Times and elsewhere, and all the ensuing histrionic posts on social media about how unvaccinated C-19 infected people are filling up hospitals across the state, we’re talking about less than 1,800 ICU and 6,660 inpatient beds in a state with nearly 40 million people.
